  • Tom's essay on the course weblog
    An Education You *Can* Download?

Two weeks ago, we discussed the ways in which a student cannot learn off the Internet. You can't learn about body language or facial expressions or playing sports off the Internet, but there are thousands of other things you can learn about on the Internet. In fact, ever since the internet was "born," people have been trying to use it as a vehicle of education with some great success...

  • Journal question:

How does the internet affect student-teacher interaction? Can you learn as much from an on-line class? What about classroom discussions? Will a chatroom be adequate for replacing this? What about the wonderful opportunities to take any class you wanted, anywhere in the world?

  • homework for Wed. 7.12

Think about your current favorite book, band, movie, and TV show. Find a link and/or images on the Net for each of the above (if any). Make a simple HTML page for these items, with a one-line description for each item of why it's your favorite... upload it to your website, and let your TA know the name of the document. We'll make a course collage of these things.
