GOLF

The 18-hole championship Boundary Oak Municipal Golf Course is operated by Bob Boldt, P.G.A. Class A Professional. The pro shop is completeley stocked and designed to serve the 90,000 players utilizing this facility. The night-lighted driving range is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The P.G.A. professionally accredited staff is available for private, individual or group lessons which may be scheduled by calling (925)945-0995.

To reserve a tee time, please call the reservation line at (925)934-4775. Resident ID cards may be obtained at the golf course.

Aquatics

Walnut Creek Aquanuts: Olympic Synchronize Swimming Team

Walnut Creek is the home of the Olympic Gold Medalists in Synchronize Swimming, the Aquanuts. If you would like to see these talented young swimmers, watch for the fall date of their annual performance, Night of Champions. This annual event features fine food and is held at Clarke Memortial Swim Center at Heather Farms, Waknut Creek. In addition, there will be performances featuring members from the 1998 U.S. National Team-recent bronze medal winners from the World Championships held in Perth, Australia. TENNIS

Spain's Virginia Ruano Pascual, plays a backhand return to Serena Williams of the U.S. during their Women's Singles match at Wimbledon, Monday June 29 1998. Williams retired injured from the match giving the victory to Ruano Pascual. If this excites you and you love the game of tennis, you can join the many tennis teams throughout Walnut Creek.


Memberships:

The city of Walnut Creek maintains tennis courts at Heather Farm Park and six satellite community courts (Larkey Park, Rudgear Park, Civic Center, Arbolado Park and Northgate High School). Each person using the courts at Heather Farm Park must either pay a daily fee or buy an annual use card.

Advance Court Reservations:

Court reservations may be made at least one day in advance by calling the Tennis Center during Pro Shop hours. An hourly reservation fee will be charged. To reserve courts at Heather Farm or any of the satellite courts, call (925)945-0105.

Lessons

Individual and group lessons are available for all ages and playing levels. Group lessons for the following levels will be offered:

Beginning:

Little or no previous instruction. Includes forehand, backhand, and serves.

Advanced Beggining:

Previous instrucion or equivilant experiance includes serve, ground stroke drills, volley, overhead, and basic stragedy.

Intermediate:

Graduate of advanced beginning course or equivalent experience. Includes serve, approach shots, introduction to doubles strategy.

Pee Wee Tennis


Pee Wee Tennis is designed to introduce 4 to 8-year-olds to the game of tennis in a fun and relaxing way.

Junior Tennis League


Junior Tennis Center offers a year-round junior tennis program, which includes tennis instruction, clinics, league and camps.

Summer Junior Camps


Summer camps for juniors ages 5-16 are offered at various times and locations throughout the summer. These camps focus on non-competitive, fun-filled tennis with other activities included. Walnut Creek Youth Athletic Association

WCYAA offers recreational sports for boys and girls in the Walnut Creek Area. The emphasis is on fun, good sportsmanship and team play. Coaches for the program are volenteers or team parents. Flag football programs for 2nd through 8th graders will be held from Semptember through November. The basketball league, for boys and girls, starts in November and ends in March.

CYO Basketball


Basketball Leagues for boys and girls are offered for children in grades 2-8. Practice season begins October 1, 1998. Sign-ups begin June 1. Call Jim Cattalini at (925)933-8468 for more information.

Walnut Creek Little League


Baseball and softball programs for boys and girls ages 8-16. Call WCLL hot line for July/August summer league information.

Walnut Creek Soccer Club


WCSC is a youth soccer organization with players ages 6-18. Registration was held in March, but forms for late sign-ups are still available at the Soccer and Sport Shop, 1539 Locust St., Walnut Vreek. Season starts the first week in September. For more information, call Pete Milcovich, 932-5128.
