ATDP courses and UC a-g Requirements (2009)

For your reference, we have provided lists of our Secondary Division Program courses for each summer since 1999
under the appropriate curriculum area, along with important recommendations and considerations.
The courses are organized according to University of California a-g requirements.
We hope this list will be useful to you as you decide on ATDP courses and prepare for college.

a. History/Social Science

ATDP does not offer courses to fulfill the History requirement. For Social Science courses, see g. College Preparatory Electives.

b. English

The following courses are recommended for one semester each of additional writing and literature to supplement the high-school curriculum.

  • 2903.1, 2903.2, 2903.3, 2903.4, 2903.5 or 2903.6 Writing for High School
  • 2904 Public Speaking and Writing for Grades 8 & 9
  • 2905.1, 2905.2, or 2905.3 Writing for College
  • 2907 Public Speaking and Writing for Grades 10 & 11
  • 2908.1, or 2908.2 Advanced Reading and Writing

c. Mathematics

The following courses are designed to fulfill one year each of the mathematics requirement:

  • 2941 Algebra I meets the elementary algebra requirement
  • 2943.1, 2943.2 or 2943.3 Geometry meets the geometry requirement
  • 2945.1 or 2945.2 Algebra II/Trigonometry meets the advanced algebra requirement, with trigonometry

Beyond three-year minimum, one year each:

  • 2946.1 or 2946.2 Precalculus
  • 2947 AP Calculus AB
  • 2949 AP Statistics

Other of our Mathematics courses can be used to fulfill the elective requirement. See "Other Courses" (below) for details.

d. Laboratory Science

The following course is designed to fulfill one year of the laboratory science requirement:

  • 2979 AP Biology

e. Language Other than English

The following courses are designed to fulfill one year each of the language other than English requirement:

  • 2920.1 or 2920.3 First-Year Latin
  • 2924.1 or 2924.2 First-Year Japanese
  • 2925 Second-Year Japanese
  • 2930 First-Year Russian

f. Visual and Performing Arts

The following courses are designed to fulfill one year each of the visual and performing arts requirement:

  • 2910.2 and 2912.4 Beginning Acting 1 & 2 (both needed to fulfill requirement, whether taken concurrently or over two summers)
  • 2910.4 and 2912.2 Beginning Acting 1 & 2 (both needed to fulfill requirement, whether taken concurrently or over two summers)
  • 2916 AP Art History
  • 2955 Introduction to Architectural Design

g. College Preparatory Electives

The following courses are designed to fulfill one year each of the college preparatory elective requirement:

While the following courses do not fulfill UC a-g requirements, they are accepted by many school districts as prerequisites and preparation for advanced study for high school graduation requirements and are of great educational value in their respective areas:
