Hello, my name is David. I live in
Livermore, California, although I don't stay here all the time. In
the summer my mom, dad, brother, dog, and I go to our cabin up at Tahoe.
The cabin is on the north side and only a three or four minute walk from the
lake. It is not a winter cabin, so in the fall we close it up until summer.
When we walk down to the shore, we go crawdad
fishing off of a nearby pier. Crawdads are also known as crayfish. It's really simple.
All you need is a long piece of twine, a large flat rock, and some raw bacon. First, you
tie the string around the rock like a package, with the string going on four sides of the rock.
Next, you tie the bacon to the rock with some excess string. Then you just drop the rock into
the water and wait. It will take a few minutes for the crawdads to catch the scent and crawl
on over to the bait. Once you have a crawdad on the rock, wait a little while
for him to become really attached to it. After you feel that he won't give it
up very easily, you very, very slowly bring up the string. When the rock is
close to the surface, pull in the rope a little faster, and then if the
crawdad is still eating at the bacon, get it onto the pier quickly. You can
pick it up right behind the arms and be perfectly safe. After you toss him
back into the water it's fun to watch him glide down to the bottom.
Another thing we do up there is ride in our neighbor's boat. It's a small,
yellow, fiberglass boat, but nevertheless, fast and fun. He always lets my
brother and me drive for a little while. At about noon, we either go some
place shallow and drop anchor, or beach the boat in Carnelian Bay to have
lunch. Sometimes we bring his inner tube along and go inner tubing. It's
pretty fun, until you fall out, then it's cold!
When dinner time rolls around, my little brother always asks if we can invite
the neighbor, the one with the yellow boat, over for dinner. Every once in
a while, my mom says okay. He always brings over Tostitos and a secret salsa,
which happens to be some kind of mix between Medium Pace Picante, tomatoes
and some other vegetables.
After our neighbor goes home and we've cleaned up from dinner, we watch a bit
of T.V. and then go to bed. Early in the morning, the little critters wake up
and have a party on our roof. You can hear the loud pitter patter of their little
feet on the wooden shingles. It's kinda cool.
These little guys make a lot of noise.
Every once in a while we convince our parents to take us miniature golfing.
The are several different courses to choose from. First, at King's Beach there
is a nice, shady one without many moving parts, just a lot of blocks, bumps,
hills, and dents. Some of the holes are pretty hard, though. At the end you
have a chance to putt a free game. The other course is at Carnelian Bay. This
one is sunny, there isn't much shade anywhere. Most of the holes have either
a motorized object in front of them. Other holes are the kind where you try and
hit the ball into a certain hole to make it travel through a pipe which is
supposed to, depending on which pipe you hit the ball into, dump it out near the
hole. At the end of this course, there is a slot machine where you insert your
ball instead of a coin and hope to line everything up and win a free game.
One thing that I think is really cool, is the Shakespeare performances that my
mom and I go to. They are always at night, and take place out of doors on a
beach. Right behind the stage there is Crystal Bay, and it looks beautiful
during a full moon. When you get there, you locate any place on the sand,
because there are no seats. Fortunately, you can rent beach chairs. Towards
the back of the audience, there are a few big boulders, which little kids are
always climbing on. We always get a spot right behind a smaller rock to rest our
feet on, and right in front of a larger rock. We bring these really big, really
old sleeping bags which are fun to snuggle up in. For dinner, we bring a basket
of food and have a picnic during the play. The first play I saw in that theater
was, "A Midsummer's Night Dream."
And I saw it on a midsummer's night, too. The stage looks gorgeous with the bay
reflecting the moonlight in the background. It's really fun.
I always have a great time up at Tahoe. But I don't like it when Autumn comes,
because I don't get to see that good old cabin until summer.
I now have some pictures that I took around our cabin. So why don't don't you stop on by my Lake Tahoe Picture Book and have a look.
